Chapter 5 . Nanostructures Technology , Research and Applications

چکیده
The NanoStructures Laboratory (NSL) at MIT develops techniques for fabricating surface structures of integrated circuits (IC) with feature sizes in the range from nanometers to micrometers, and uses these structures in a variety of research projects. The NSL includes facilities for lithography (photo, interferometric, electron beam, ion beam, and x-ray), etching (chemical, plasma and reactive-ion), liftoff, electroplating, sputter deposition, and e-beam evaporation. Much of the equipment and nearly all of the methods utilized in the NSL are developed in-house. Generally, commercial IC processing equipment cannot achieve the resolution needed for nanofabrication, and it lacks the required flexibility. The research projects fall into four major categories: (1) development of submicron and nanometer fabrication technology; (2) short-channel semiconductor devices, quantumeffect electronics, and optoelectronics; (3) periodic structures for x-ray optics, spectroscopy, atomic interferometry and nanometer metrology; (4) crystalline films on nonlattice-matching substrates. 5.2 Scanning Electron Beam Lithography

متن کاملBlock Copolymer Nanostructures for Technology
Nanostructures generated from block copolymer self-assembly enable a variety of potential technological applications. In this article we review recent work and the current status of two major emerging applications of block copolymer (BCP) nanostructures: lithography for microelectronics and photovoltaics. We review the progress in BCP lithography in relation to the requirements of the semicondu...
متن کاملThe Nano–Micro Interface: Bridging Micro and Nano Worlds
By its very title, Nano-Micro Interface: Bridging Micro and Nano Worlds is a timely book for the field of nanotechnology. Since researchers can make microscale objects nanoscale (the top-down approach) as well as atomic and molecular species nanoscale (the bottom-up approach) are there applications in nanoscience and technology that can benefit, or be revolutionized, by combining both approache...
متن کاملMacroporous Silicon: Technology and Applications
Macroporous silicon (MPS) is a versatile material that since its origin in the early 1990s has seen intense research and has found applications in many fields. MPS is a key technology in photonic crystals research, and optic and photonic applications are its main applications. However, this chapter is devoted to several of the non-photonic uses of MPS. In particular, new electronic and MEMS dev...
